Sound Healing – using sound therapy to heal + video

Sound healing – can music be used to help heal ourselves?

Can we “supercharge” our cells by being exposed to certain types of music? Many believe so.  It is called Sound Healing or Sound Therapy.

Sound can make, break or rearrange molecular structure. The human body is 70% water a
nd sound travels four times faster through water.  This makes the human body a perfect resonator for sound.

The healing power of sound is not new – in fact the idea of sound healing has been used through history by Shamans and sound healers and ancient Egyptian and in Asia as a healing tool.

There is increasing interest in the transformative power of sound and music.  It is now widely accepted that many illnesses are stress related. Therefore treatments that promote relaxation and help reduce stress can be a very effective way to prevent and treat illness.

In this is a 23 minute short version of Tessa Shield’s feature documentary film  “Out of the Silence” interviewees explain the power of sound healing and sound therapy.

Watch and see what you think – can music help with the healing

3 hours of Reiki Healing Music

Reiki Healing Music – 3 hours

This Reiki Music is ideal for Reiki healing sessions, and encouraging a state of Zen. Let the calming, subtle sounds take you to a higher state of consciousness, and allow you to give and receive powerful Reiki vibrations.

Reiki healers need to eat too!

The age old question that keeps coming up again and again – should I charge for my healing services?

The simple fact of life is that although all of us would like to receive something (well actually everything) for free, you know as well as I do that very few people in the world can actually live this way.

Your time is as precious and valuable as anyone else’s so as a Reiki healer ask yourself these questions;

  • Do you have to pay rent or a home loan, electricity, food, water, petrol etc?
  • Did you pay to learn your craft and do you not pay to have further education and knowledge to keep it relevant and up to date?
  • Do you pay to have an accountant help you with your tax, or a lawyer with your legal advice, a doctor for treatment, the chemist and pharmaceutical costs just to name a few?
  • Is your healing not as valuable as any other therapists, counsellors, hypnotists, etc.?

The list is long and I could go on and on – but you get the picture.

Now I am not saying you need to rip people off either – and if you took up reiki healing as a money making venture then in all likelihood you will fail as there needs to be true spirituality in what you do and the unbalance will likely result in poor outcomes in any case.

Instead the questions to ask yourself are:

  • Do I believe in what I am doing or offering?
  • Am I helping the person I treat?
  • If I am worried about money and my own problems will that limit the effectiveness of my sessions?
  • Is my service truly offering good value?
  • If I have to earn an income from alternative work won’t that mean I have less time I have available and can help less people?
  • If I had more money would I be able to help even more people?
  • By not charging money am I losing clients who feel guilty about this and not come back for further treatments even though they may be needed?

According to Reiki Rays . . .

“When healing work is done with a sense of service and gratitude, there is no need to feel that what we are doing is not important or should not be rewarded. We have all been given a talent and a calling to use it for the good of others. Allowing ourselves to be provided for through this type of work is showing gratitude for our talent and our ability to serve others. It ensures that we will continue to be able to serve into the future in health and well being”

Remember the world we live in is all about trade- and if you get to the base of the problem you will realise that people really do want to be helped, healed, counselled, taught – whatever it is you do and best of all they are happy to pay you for it.

Nobody really begrudges paying for a service at the end of the day because it is the world we live in! What people actually begrudge is paying for something that they don’t believe they are getting value for.

My final point would simply be to remember you are not charging for the healing or the energy – what you are charging for is the time, money and effort spent in learning how to effectively impart your healing gift onto others- which when effective is priceless.

5 Amazing Healing Properties of the Oil of Tranquility

Health Benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil

Vetiver oil has been used in traditional medicine in South Asia, Southeast Asia and West Africa for thousands of years.

It’s native to India, and both its leaves and roots have wonderful uses.

Vetiver is known as a sacred herb valued because of its uplifting, soothing, healing and protective properties. It’s a natural body cooler — making it extremely popular in tropical countries.

This grass has a very pleasant, mild, earthy, and musky smell which has a cooling effect on the body and the mind.  In fact, in India and Sri Lanka it’s known as the “oil of tranquility.”

Vetiver oil has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. In these treatments, vetiver oil is used to treat imbalances and heal health disorders like muscular aches, fevers, arthritis pain and headaches. One interesting use, vetiver essential oil was used in massaging brides to sanctify them before marriage. Because of its cleansing and therapeutic properties, it’s known to heal a person from within.

This essential oil is very popular in aromatherapy and has many medicinal properties, which are described in greater detail over the page.

To Understand Others, We Need to Walk In Their Shoes

Philosopher Roman Krznaric believes there are few ills that can’t be solved with empathy – and he’s created a mobile Empathy Museum to prove it.

This September, the world’s first Empathy Museum dedicated to helping visitors develop the skill of putting themselves in others’ shoes will be opened.

The museum is the brainchild of the contemporary philosopher and empathy expert Roman Krznaric.

Krznaric has lost faith in the old model of changing society through parties and politics and laws.

“Empathy has this amazing power for social change,” he explains. “We need to take empathy out of the realm of psychology and not only into everyday relations but also into culture.”

So to bring it to everyday life he is launching the world’s first Empathy Museum, in the UK in late 2015 and will then be travelling to Australia and other countries.

Amongst the unusual exhibitions will be a human library, where instead of borrowing a book you borrow a person for conversation – maybe a Sikh teenager, an unhappy investment banker an immigrant or a gay father. In other words, the kind of people you may not get to meet in everyday life.

The Empathy Museum is an exciting social change project that has already taken its first steps. In January 2014 Krznaric launchedthe world’s first online Empathy Library, where you can find novels, children’s books, feature films and video shorts all about empathy.

“I have learned that empathy is the best glue for bonding a family together and forging the human relationships that make life worth living.”

Empathy is vital to healthy human relationships. It is the ability to understand others, but it seems to have been sidelined in the past decades, while we have focused on a hyper-individualistic, consumerist race to serve ourselves whatever the cost to others. So Krznaric, along with a whole school of social and cultural thinkers, believes that we should deploy empathy to sort out the mess we’re in.

“The biggest deficit that we have in our society and in the world right now is an empathy deficit. We are in great need of people being able to stand in somebody else’s shoes and see the world through their eyes.” Barack Obama

The latest neuroscience research reveals that 98% of us have the ability to empathise, but few of us put our full empathic potential to use.

Research shows Reiki could help cancer sufferers

Researchers believe that there is a case for Reiki being added to the roster of complementary therapies

Due to more effective methods of diagnosis and treatment, people are living longer with cancer and it is now often classed as a long-term condition.  In fact a new study shows that at least half of the population will get cancer at some point in their lives.

A University of Huddersfield research project claims that Reiki can improve the quality of life for cancer patients by lowering their levels of anxiety, depression and fatigue. The findings are to be presented at a major conference and larger-scale research could follow.

“Patients don’t go into the hospital or see consultants as frequently, so they often look at things outside of normal medical treatment to help them cope with the effects of living with the disease, such as depression, anxiety, fatigue and pain,” said Dr McCluskey.

As a result of the study they have concluded that

“Reiki could be a beneficial tool in the self-management of quality of life issues for women with cancer”.

The team now believes that there is a case for Reiki being added to the roster of complementary therapies that are available via the NHS.

“The benefits could last for as long as a fortnight, said Dr Stead. “It really gave them an escape from what they were going through. They were often undergoing a lot of treatment, and the Reiki was a respite and seemed to help them cope. It got them out of their blackness.”

Learn how Reiki is helping this sick little boy

“I see it as benefiting the whole family, not just the patient”

Although Blake was born completely healthy at 18 days old he developed a serious infection called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) which severely affected his digestive system, causing damage to his bowel and intestine.

As a result Blake had to have an operation to have two thirds of his bowel removed. This meant his tiny body could not absorb any of the food or nutrients he needed to grow and he was a weak and poorly baby.

The surgery was successful however Blake’s condition remains critical. Now eight months old, Blake is staying indefinitely at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton where his mum Denisa, anxiously waits for him to get strong enough to go home.

While medical staff monitor his condition to make sure he receives the nutrition he needs, Blake has also been benefiting from regular Reiki therapy by Ali Walters from Active LightWorks and her team funded by the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

Denisa feels the therapy offers ongoing benefits for both her son and the family:

“Reiki has been absolutely brilliant for Blake. Besides his digestion issues, he also has an ongoing problem with his left arm, which he cannot move properly. When Ali is treating him, he seems to gain more movement in the joint because he is more relaxed. Blake always settles down beautifully after his sessions with Ali, and he loves the calm and peaceful interaction with the therapists. I love seeing Blake so settled and happy.”

As the long hours spent by a child’s bedside can be stressful and worrying for all concerned The Active Lightworkers team make sure they treat parents and carers where possible, . Denisa looks forward to seeing Ali and receiving Reiki herself:

“I have been at the Alex, on the ward with Blake all day, every day since Mid-February. It is a tough time, sitting here watching and waiting for my little boy to get better. When I have Reiki therapy, I feel calmer while still in the hospital environment, which is usually quite difficult.

“I think it is very important for children and babies to receive Reiki treatment while they are at the Alex. It is a calming therapy within a medical environment, and it relaxes both the child and their parents / carers. I see it as benefiting the whole family, not just the patient.”

The Rockinghorse Children’s Charity has also provided funding to Ali and her team of Reiki therapists who are working alongside the paediatric team on the High Dependency Unit at the Alex.  Read more about Reiki at the Alex here.

How magical is our universe!

Images from space reveal “New Mysteries”

These most breathtaking images of deep space were taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. It’s been 25 years since Hubble first launched into low-earth orbit and it remains operational today. It can take extremely high-resolution images with negligible background light, and hence, has recorded some of the most detailed visible-light images ever, giving us an unprecedented view of space.

“Ultra high-resolution and taken with almost no background light, these pictures have answered some of the most compelling questions of time and space, while also revealing new mysteries, like the strange “dark energy” that sees the universe expanding at an ever-accelerate rate.  Now, the precision of the telescope is matched with the precision of TASCHEN reproduction standards, allowing the images to mesmerize in their iridescent colors and vast, fragile forms.”

These a just a few images from the book, called Expanding Universe. Photographs from the Hubble Space Telescope.

The Amazing Healing Power Of Oil of Oregano – 4 unique uses

Oregano, the fragrant herb commonly used to flavor pasta and meat dishes, is renowned for its versatility in the kitchen. But did you know that it can also be transformed into an herbal oil with a wide range of benefits?

The ancient Greeks and Romans had a profound appreciation for oregano, using it for various medicinal uses.

Here are just 4 of the unique uses for Oil of Oregano.

1. Antifungal

One of the main therapeutic uses oil of oregano today is to treat funguses and candida.  Oil of oregano has been proven in medical studies to kill off candidiasis, that bacteria or fungus that can grow within your system, and thus works as an antifungal.

2. Antibacterial

Another one of oregano oil uses is to kill off bacteria. If you’re looking for natural cold remedies or want to prevent the flu, this acts very, very quickly at killing off bad bacteria and viruses within your system. In fact, there was a groundbreaking study published in Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease recently which demonstrated that oil of oregano kills off E.coli, one of those bad forms of bacteria that can cause food poisoning and cause you to get sick.

3. Anti-Parasite & Antiviral

Many people, especially when travelling overseas, can come down with a parasite. Oil of oregano is an anti-parasitic as well, so it kills off parasites.

4. Antioxidant

Oregano oil has powerful antioxidant properties. In fact, it’s one of the top 10 antioxidant herbs out there today.

Watch this video by Dr. Axe to learn more about Oil or Oregano

The therapeutic use of oregano oil should be avoided in infants and children, and pregnant or nursing women. It’s always a good idea to talk to your preferred medical professional before starting a new wellness routine.

Science Confirms Ancient Wisdom – Germs Killed by Smudging

Killer Germs Obliterated

Common throughout Native American and Neo-Pagan traditions, “smudging” is the ceremonial burning of various herbs to bless, clear, or charge a space or object.

Herbs are bundled together with hemp cord or string to form easy-to-burn “smudge sticks.” As the “smudge stick” smolders and smokes, symbolically, all negative energy that surrounds its smoke will attach to and dissolve with it.  Some people liken it to taking a ‘spiritual shower,’ enabling you to wash away emotional and spiritual negativity that accumulates in your body and the spaces you live.

Some common herbs used in “smudge sticks” are sage–particularly white sage, lavender, sweet grass, and cedar.

Now modern scientific research reveals that the practice may actually have life-saving implications by purifying the air of harmful bacteria.

In a 2006 review published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology titled “Medicinal Smokes” researchers found, with surprising overlap worldwide, medicinal smoke is mostly used to address the following specific organ systems: “pulmonary (23.5%), neurological (21.8%) and dermatological (8.1%).”

The review argued that modern medicine should investigate medicinal smoke as a drug delivery system, owing to the following advantages:

“The advantages of smoke-based remedies are rapid delivery to the brain, more efficient absorption by the body and lower costs of production.”

Contributing further credibility to the clinical effectiveness of smudging is a 2007 paper titled, “Medicinal smoke reduces airborne bacteria” published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, showed that smudging may be one of the most powerful antiseptic technologies ever discovered.

“Not only did the burning of medicinal herbs clear aerial bacterial populations by 94% within one hour, but a full day later, the closed room was still effectively decontaminated”

Even more amazing a large list of pathogenic bacteria were found to be absent in an open room even after a staggering 30 days following treatment, leading the authors to conclude:

“We have demonstrated that using medicinal smoke it is possible to completely eliminate diverse plant and human pathogenic bacteria of the air within confined space.”

The Finest Opal Ever Unearthed Is Going On Display

A Fully Crystal Opal of Unequal Quality

The South Australia Museum will shortly exhibit what it believes is the best opal stone ever found — a 6.0-centimetre (2.4 inch) multi-colored gem unearthed in the Outback named the Virgin Rainbow.

The stone is valued at more than Aus$1.0 million (US$730,000), and will go on public display for the first time in September to mark the centenary of opal mining in Australia.

Museum Director Brian Oldman believes that this fully crystal opal is of unequaled quality.

“Its beauty exceeds that of any other opal ever discovered.”

“It’s almost as if there’s a fire in there; you see all different colours. As the light changes, the opal itself changes. It’s quite an amazing trick of nature”

Some 90 percent of the world’s opals come from South Australia, once covered by an inland sea which over millions of years provided an ideal environment for the formation of the stone.

“Crystal Opal – transparent to semi-transparent Precious Opal, with an exceptional play of color; the “see-through” body color can be colorless, light or dark. Crystal Opal is an extraordinary stone of health and healing, supporting the entire being. It brings high spirits and a deep feeling of joy and exuberance to one’s life. Utilizing the element of Fire, it inspires cleverness, imagination and creativity, art and poetry, and helps one understand that which will continue to exist after the completion of one’s “stay” in the physical body. Crystal Opals may be used for “gazing” and to stimulate visions from within the realms of eternity.” Source: Crystal Vaults

Strongest evidence yet of benefits of acupuncture

Acupuncture could be a great, side-effect-free alternative to drugs

Acupuncture is often dismissed by the medical profession despite the growing number of people who extol its benefits for relieving a variety of conditions. Now a new study shows that the ancient Chinese practice mimics the same changes in the body that occur from taking stress-relief drugs.

Ladan Eshkevari, PhD, a nurse anesthetist, licensed acupuncturist and associate professor in the department of nursing and the department of pharmacology and physiology at Georgetown University Medical Center, noticed that the acupuncture patients coming to her for pain were reporting improvement of symptoms unrelated to their pain, like chronic stress, depression, sleep and appetite.

“There was nothing in the literature about acupuncture for PTSD and chronic stress,” she says, so she decided to study it. To find out if acupuncture was affecting chronic stress, Eshkevari and a team of researchers looked at what happened in a key pathway in dealing with stress for both humans and rats.

They found that needles placed at just the right parts of the body interrupt the transmission of stress hormones—the most robust evidence yet to indicate that acupuncture’s positive effects go beyond just placebo.

“The benefits of acupuncture are well known by those who use it, but such proof is anecdotal. This research, the culmination of a number of studies, demonstrates how acupuncture might work in the human body to reduce stress and pain, and, potentially, depression,”

In the study, published recently in the journal Endocrinology, the researchers tested the effects of electroacupuncture, in which the needles carry a mild electric current, on stressed-out rats. They were targeting the stomach meridian point 36, which is located on the shin in humans, or behind the hind paw in rats. It’s considered in acupuncture to be one of the most powerful points on the body because it influences a pathway for chronic stress pathway called the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis.

When the researchers inserted needles at this point on rats that were stressed from cold, their stress hormone levels were much lower compared to those who did not receive the acupuncture treatment. Many drugs used to treat anxiety and depression tap into the same systems of hormones, bolstering the legitimacy of the findings.

Interestingly, this works even during the stressful event (in a previous study, Eshkevari successfully tested the application of acupuncture before stress was applied), and the effects of the acupuncture continue for up to four days after treatment is stopped.

If acupuncture works the same way in humans as it does in rats, it would be a promising alternative to medication; acupuncture may have fewer side effects and wouldn’t require so much tinkering with dosage.

“This work provides a framework for future clinical studies on the benefit of acupuncture, both before or during chronic stressful events,”

Obviously, more research into human responses to acupuncture is necessary before we can say for sure how the practice affects the body exactly, but this does indicate that the traditional Chinese medicine technique is more than just the placebo treatment some doctors claim it is.

12 of the Biggest Mistakes to Avoid when Starting a Reiki Business

Thinking about starting your own business?

Starting your own business can be an exciting time. It gives you the freedom to be your own boss and perhaps even work from home. It also allows you to choose your work hours and practices.

But its important to take your time and get things right. It will be well worth the effort.

Here are 12 of the most common mistakes people make when starting their new business:

Mistake 1.  Not doing your research

Before starting any business it is important to establish that there are potential clients.

While interest in Reiki is expanding rapidly, there are still a lot of people who don’t know what it is. You have to be realistic about how much demand there may be for a service like Reiki if you want to work locally.

It is important to know where your potential clients are and how you will let them know about your new practice before you invest time and money in a business.

Mistake 2.  Setting your practice up in the wrong place

One of the first things you will need to consider when planning your new business is where you are going to locate your practice.

You’ll need a room that is quiet, has both privacy and easy access, and ideally has a separate entrance from your main living area.

If you are not able to establish a practice at home you could try some local businesses who operate in the health and wellness industry. For example chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopaths and health spas, may rent you space by the day  or hour for a nominal fee.  There is also the added benefit of having people see your business who may be visiting one of the other practices.

Just make sure you do your sums and you know how much you can afford to spend when you are first establishing your business.

Mistake 3.  Quitting your day job too soon

You may have big plans but don’t get carried away.  Its best to start small and make sure you don’t get overwhelmed.

Be realistic about how much time you have to devote to your new business and how much you need to earn to pay the bills.

Healing people is a noble cause and you may want to make it your key life purpose. But fulfilling that purpose doesn’t mean that it has to be your full-time job, at least not right way.  Give your business time to grow momentum.
